Real Madrid extended their dominance in La Liga with a commanding 2-0 victory over Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday. Goals from Kylian Mbappe and Eder Militao helped Los Blancos strengthen their lead at the top of the league table.
Playing at home, Real Madrid controlled the match with 73 percent ball possession, leaving only 27 percent for Espanyol. Although the scoreline was modest, Espanyol’s defense managed to limit the damage throughout the game.

In the 22nd minute, defender Eder Militao opened the scoring with a stunning strike from about 30 yards his first goal in nearly a year. Following the goal, Madrid intensified their attacking pressure. Early in the second half, Mbappe doubled the lead with a perfectly executed chip shot from outside the box at the 47th minute. He went on to create several more chances but was unable to score again. Vinicius Junior also narrowly missed when his shot hit the post.
English midfielder Jude Bellingham made his season debut as a late substitute for Mbappe after recovering from an injury sustained during the Club World Cup. His appearance brought renewed energy to the crowd.
This win extended coach Xabi Alonso’s perfect start in La Liga, as Real Madrid remains undefeated with five wins from five matches under his management. With 15 points from 5 games, Real Madrid has solidified their position as strong title contenders, while Espanyol, accumulating 10 points from 5 matches, struggled to create many scoring opportunities.
