Diane Keaton, the Oscar-winning actress celebrated for her unforgettable roles in Annie Hall, The Godfather trilogy, and The First Wives Club, has died at the age of 79.

Her death was confirmed by Dori Rath, a producer who had worked closely with Keaton. No cause of death has been released. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, emergency responders were called to Keaton’s Brentwood home at around 8:08 a.m. on Saturday, and a patient was transported to a nearby hospital.

Diane Keaton rose to fame in the early 1970s as Kay Adams in The Godfather films and became one of Hollywood’s most distinctive stars through her collaborations with Woody Allen, including Play It Again, Sam, Sleeper, and Annie Hall the latter earning her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1978.

Renowned for her quirky humor, sharp wit, and timeless fashion sense particularly her signature menswear-inspired style Diane Keaton built a career that spanned more than five decades. Her hit films included Baby Boom, Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, Something’s Gotta Give, and the Book Club series.

Born Diane Keaton Hall in Los Angeles in 1946, Keaton was the eldest of four children. She studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City and made her Broadway debut in Hair before conquering Hollywood. Beyond acting, she was also a director, producer, photographer, and bestselling author.

In a 2020 interview ’ Juju Chang, Keaton reflected on her family and her relationship with her brother, Randy, who struggled with mental illness and addiction. “When I look back on Randy, I just think wow, I wish I could’ve been a better sister,” she said.
