At Least 4 Killed in Russia’s Heaviest Drone and Missile Attack on Kyiv

At least four people, including a 12-year-old girl, have died and 14 others were injured in a major Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv and its surrounding areas. Described by media and independent monitors as one of the heaviest bombardments since the war began, the assault involved nearly 500 drones and over 40 missiles, including deadly “Kinzhal” hypersonic missiles.

An air raid alert was active over Kyiv early Sunday as Russian forces launched waves of drones and missiles. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, reported damage to more than 15 locations, including multi-story residential buildings and courtyard car fires across several districts. Initial death tolls were updated as more victims were discovered.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the “brutal” and prolonged 12-hour attack, urging the international community, including the US, Europe, G7, and G20, to apply harsher pressure on Moscow. He emphasized Ukraine’s determination to continue striking back and force Russia toward diplomacy.

Residents sought shelter deep underground in metro stations as the attacks continued into the morning. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described the strikes as involving “hundreds of drones and missiles,” causing widespread civilian casualties and destruction.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko called the assault “massive,” advising people to remain in safe shelters. He later updated the injury count to 14, with one person critically wounded.

Eyewitness reports highlighted the human toll, with families mourning lost children and damaged homes. An independent monitor called the attack one of the largest on Kyiv since the war’s escalation.

In Ukraine’s southeastern Zaporizhia region, Russian strikes wounded at least four and targeted residential areas and infrastructure. Ukraine’s presidential office head, Andriy Yermak, called the attacks a war on civilians and insisted on a stronger economic response from the West to counter Russia’s aggression.
