Arab Leaders Convene Emergency Summit After Israeli Attack on Qatar

Doha Arab and Muslim leaders are gathering in Qatar’s capital on Monday for an emergency summit to address Israel’s unprecedented attack on the Gulf state, AFP reports. The meeting, jointly organized by the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), aims to step up pressure on Israel to halt the war in Gaza and end the deepening humanitarian crisis.

The call for the summit comes nearly a week after an Israeli airstrike targeted a high-security district in Doha, killing six people. Hamas later announced that its top leaders had survived the strike, which triggered widespread global condemnation including from US President Donald Trump.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, speaking at a preparatory session, urged the international community to abandon what he described as hypocrisy and to hold Israel accountable for its “crimes.” He declared that Israel’s “war of extermination” in Gaza would not succeed.

According to a draft statement obtained by AFP, participants warned that Israel’s “brutal aggression” threatens ongoing efforts to normalize relations between Tel Aviv and Arab states. The document emphasized that the attacks, along with what it called “genocide and ethnic cleansing,” are undermining both current peace initiatives and future prospects for coexistence.

Israel and the United States have been pushing to expand the Abraham Accords agreements brokered in 2020 with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco. However, Arab leaders at the summit signaled that continued violence is jeopardizing both the accords and wider normalization efforts.

The emergency conference is expected to conclude with a unified statement of solidarity with Qatar and renewed calls for international action to end Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
