The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is assisting local authorities in determining what triggered the deadly Tennessee explosives blast. Investigators are expected to focus on possible equipment malfunctions, chemical storage issues, or procedural errors that could have caused the detonation. Residents living as far as 15 miles away reported hearing the explosion. One woman told reporters she was sitting with her daughter when a sudden, thunderous bang shook their home. We didn’t know if it was a gun or what, she said, recalling the frightening moment. Another local resident, Lucy Garton, described the overwhelming response she witnessed on her way home from work. The roads were blocked with state troopers and emergency vehicles everywhere, she said. You had to show proof that you lived here to get through. Garton added that many locals either work at or know someone employed at the plant, calling the explosion a devastating blow to the tight-knit community. It’s a very family oriented place. Everyone just goes to work, takes care of their families, and looks out for each other,” she said. Officials noted that this isn’t the first tragedy at the site. A previous explosion in 2014 also resulted in fatalities, raising new concerns about safety standards in Tennessee’s explosives industry. As investigators continue to search for answers, the Bucksnort community mourns the lives lost in what has become one of the deadliest industrial accidents in the state’s recent history.
