Barcelona Tops La Liga After Comeback Win Against Real Sociedad

Defending champions Barcelona have finally reached the top of the Spanish La Liga for the first time this season. Hansi Flick’s side came from behind at home to defeat Real Sociedad 2-1.

Earlier, Real Madrid lost 5-2 to Atletico Madrid in the Madrid derby, allowing Barcelona to take advantage and move ahead by one point. After seven matches, Barcelona leads with 19 points, while Real Madrid has 18. Real Sociedad sits 17th with 5 points.

Barcelona fell behind in the 31st minute when Alvaro Odriozola scored from Ander Barrenetxea’s cross. However, just before halftime, Hülle Kunde equalized with a header from Marcus Rashford’s corner.

Barcelona Tops in La Liga

Teenage talent Lamine Yamal entered the game in the second half, having been rested initially due to injury concerns. Within seconds of coming on, he delivered an excellent cross that set up Robert Lewandowski’s winning goal.

Towards the end of the match, Rashford, Dani Olmo, and Lewandowski created more chances, but Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Ramiro made several key saves to keep his team in the game.

Sociedad came close to equalizing when Takefusa Kubo’s shot hit the post in the 80th minute, but Barca held on to win 2-1 and claim the top spot in La Liga.
